Selborne is a thriving primary school in the centre of the Medway Village, close to the A40 Western Avenue, between Perivale and Greenford underground stations and close to South Greenford station on the British Rail Paddington-Greenford line. The school occupies an extensive site, with a large field and a courtyard garden. The school has two halls to
offer a range of activities to all pupils, including gymnastics, dance and
drama. It also has a newly-equipped computer suite with the up to date
information technology facilities and fast broadband internet access. Junior, infant, reception and
nursery children have separate play areas with modern play equipment and safety
matting. The juniors also have a fenced area for large ball games. The school has excellent resources for teaching and benefits from a well-qualified and enthusiastic staff. Many extra-curricular activities are offered by teachers and others – a number of sports, gymnastics, recorders, choir, dancing, art, cookery, origami, music keyboards and computer clubs. Many junior children learn brass instruments and come together to play in the Selborne Brass Band. Children may enter the nursery
from their third birthday, but priority is given to four year olds. The children
leave Selborne at eleven and go to a variety of community, foundation and
private secondary schools. We are an inclusive school. We have children from a diverse range of backgrounds, abilities, cultures and religions and many children are fortunate to be able to speak additional languages. Pupil progress is closely
monitored through the school, and pupils with special educational needs are
given additional specialist support. The school won a DfES School Achievement Award in 2002. The Friends of Selborne, the school’s parents’ association, arranges a variety of activities to provide fun for the children and to raise funds for special projects. The school is an accredited "Healthy School", being one of the first in Ealing to obtain the status. The scheme aims to help learners to achieve their best academically, personally and socially by providing a supportive and challenging environment. The initiative is aimed at developing the whole child, including their educational achievement, health and emotional well-being. The school has an open-door policy, and visitors are always welcome. Our Mission"Learning in Partnership" is our school motto. We believe in working closely with parents, governors and others in the community to develop the quality of the educational experiences for the children at our school. At Selborne we strive to promote the highest standards of work and behaviour and to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an environment of mutual trust, respect and harmony. Our last OFSTED report in May 2003 stated: "Selborne is a very good school with many strengths and some outstanding features" Contact Information
