Working Party.

Our next working party is next Sunday the 30th November.
We meet at the station car park at 9.00am.
There is still much to do, swims still need clearing and pathways trimmed. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated, you will need a good pair of gloves and boots or wellies.

Give your Fishery Officers the support they deserve, after all it is your fishery, be there.

Important

This weekends working party has been cancelled as the Fishery Officer and his assistant are both unavailable, and some of the equipment is being serviced. The next working party is on the 30th November, details will be published nearer the date and we look forward to meeting you then.

Last Working Party

At the last working party eight members turned out, the same members who can be relied upon to be there. The footpath was cleared from Hythe End up to the temporary bridge and around Cargill Lake, then unfortunately the machine broke down. Our thanks to John for his excellent efforts with this machine. Some swims along the river were cleared and a good deal of the rubbish burned, our thanks to Roy who looked after the fire when other members had gone home. We still need more members out on working parties if we are to get the swims cleared on the river.

Good News

The canal at Harefield is now producing some nice fish, good catches of bream have been reported,up to 45lbs bags, some nice roach and good bags of perch. The restocking of this fishery should take place later on this Autumn, should the carp virus KVC not interfere with this intention.

Not such good news.

The Purple Patch Runners are holding a running event on Sunday 9th November and will be passing along the canal towpath. The Purple Patch Runners are holding a running event on Sunday 9th November and will be passing along the canal towpath. The runners leave Cassiobury Park at 10am and will head towards Cowley Recreation Ground arriving between 11:15-12:30. Marshals will be along the route to deal with any problems. It may be best to avoid the societies fisheries during this time.

Working Party.   31st August.

This working party was attended by six members (all Officers) where most of the work entailed clearing Watts Pool car park.

Some work was carried out along the river footpath clearing some of the nettles. Unfortunately with wet weather and lack of members attending the amount of work carried out was much less than we had hoped for. If you want the swims along the river cleared and free to fish, more members are needed to attend the next working party on the 28th September. otherwise the clearance will take a lot longer.

It is planned that the next working party will include time to look at Watts Pool to improve swims and carry out any other work deemed necessary.

Reminder

Our first working party is next Sunday 31st August meeting at Watts Pool car park at 9.00am We intend to work on the river, clearing the footpath which has become over grown with nettles etc and clearing swims.
You will need a pair of good strong gloves and wellies or boots. Do your best to be there we need all the assistance we can muster.

Members fishing the river have had good bags of chub and some barbel, Roy has pictures of his barbel in the gallery (Online this weekend).

Progress is still going forward on the project at Harefield on the canal, and our first stocking of fish will be in the Autumn.

Good News

Watts Pool has now been agreed with Three Valley's that the Blenheim members can again fish the pool. This water is subject to the normal close season restrictions. Members are reminded that if they come across anyone other than members fishing they must ask them to leave the area as they are poaching.

More Good News

After the pollution at Harefield on the canal last year the fishing has been very poor, however after a meeting with Thames Water, British Waterways and the Environment Agency it has been agreed that there will be a restocking in the early Autumn, with some further enhancement work carried out to improve fish habitat generally.A further meeting has been arranged for next month to discuss things in more detail, any improvements will be published here as it happens.

Even More Good News

Julian our Canal Officer has been fishing Cargill Lake recently and has had tench up to 8lbs. as well as catching some roach and perch.Up till now most members only fish for the carp and at last some-one has proved that there are other fish to be caught from Cargill. If you need further details you will need to speak with Julian

The British Canoe Union are attempting to gain access to all waters in Britain without costing them a penny. You are requested to review the letter below and then send it to your local MP.
The more letters they receive the greater chance we have of putting a stop to it. You have been warned.
Do it now or your river and canal fishing could be at risk.

The last working party had eight members in attendance
( the normal working party team) where some great work was carried out on Cargill Lake, clearing some swims from overhanging branches and trees growing in the water.

Most of the debris was burned and once again we enjoyed the best of weather with brilliant sunshine all morning. My sincere thanks to all members attending working parties this year, your efforts are showing, with the improvements readily seen along the river and around the lake.Well done.

Next years working party dates are noted on your match card which you will receive with your permit when you rejoin, so no excuses about not knowing dates.

At the last working party eight members attended, NONE of the carp anglers requested to attend turned out. Many thanks to John for his major effort in obtaining the barley straw and transporting it to Wraysbury and then boating it around the lake and placing it at strategic points around the lake, the other members wheel barrowing the bales around the banks for dispersal into the lake, well done all of you.
Another major task that was taken on, was a large fallen tree at the top end, river side which had already rooted in the lake and was no small task in getting it removed and burnt, again many thanks to every one who was involved, a job well done.
The date for the next working party has to be changed from the date published and the new date advised as soon as it has been agreed. Again the work to be done will be on the lake where more tree work is necessary.

On the working party on the 27th January ten members turned out, a much better attendance than we have had for a long time. The footpath from Watts Pool up to the temporary bridge was opened out to about two metres with mainly bramble being trimmed right back. More swims were opened up and some more created, much of the debris collected up and burned.

There is still much to do where the bramble and ivy has invaded the banks. I would like to thank all of those members who took the trouble to attend, your efforts are greatly appreciated.

The next working party we are hoping to be able to put this years barley straw into Cargill Lake, this will depend on if John can get down on the day with the straw, and if his vehicle can manage to get across the boggy area from the sailing club area after all the rain we have had. Again we will need many hands to move the bales across the temporary bridge and place them around the lake, so come on some of you carp anglers this is mainly for your benefit. The date is the 24th February and I will remind you nearer the date.

Working Party

The working party on the 16th December was attended by six members, most of which were the regulars. We still need more members to attend if we are to get our river up to the standard we want. The next working party is on the 27th January, we need you to be there, why not make the start to the new year a good one and one to be proud of.

We will meet at Watts Pool car park, which you will find has had a great deal of work done on the last party, at 9.00am and work our way upstream clearing swims and the banks as we go. Most tools are supplied, all we need is you to be there to assist.

Reminder

Club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Conservative Club, Kenton. The numbers attending meetings is very poor and we need to see some improvement in this regard, why not just give a little of your time to the society, after all it is for your benefit that meetings are held, there must be something you can bring to the meetings for discussion. One or two meetings a year can't be that difficult to arrange.
