2009's Theatreland Walking Tour spans a wide and varied area covering the history of some of the West End's best loved theatres including The London Palladium, The Theatre Royal Haymarket and the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Along the way we'll hear of flamboyant Actor Managers, controversial playwrights, variety artistes, theatre ghosts, the first theatrical knight and a royal mistress or two! We'll delve into some hidden alleyways and we'll view London's smartest stage door.
Meeting Place: Outside the London Palladium, Argyll Street (nearest tube Oxford Circus).

Take Part in Diabetes UK walks
Would you like to discover London’s hidden and secret parts while also raising money for diabetes research? The Diabetes UK London Walks are the perfect way to experience the vibrancy and historical wonders of this famous city.
This year the Diabetes UK London region has joined up with Diane Burstein who will guide participants during these lively and informative walks.
Dates, locations and themes
The London Walks will take place on the following dates, and each walk has a special theme:
29 March: Southwark and Bankside - 'Brothels, Bishops and the Bard'.
19 April: City Courtyards and Alleyways
24 May: Historic Hampstead
28 June: Royal Richmond by the River
20 July: Beautiful Blackheath
24 August: Historic Highgate
27 September: Bohemians and Bluestockings - Literary London
26 October: Jack the Ripper's Wicked London (evening walk)
2 November: Sinister and Ghostly London (evening walk)
All walks start at 2.30pm (except where stated as an 'evening walk' when the starting time will be 6pm) and last no more than two hours. Participants will be asked to raise a minimum of £30 in sponsorship. Details of starting places will be provided on registration.
