Halloween Experience 2009

Boat trips, Ghosts, and fun for the family

Each year we celebrate Halloween in partnership with Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association who offer a trip through Islington Tunnel in a highly decorated boat. Staff in costume will take part in the event so far as staffing availability allows.

A Unique Trip

The Halloween trip is a unique trip through Islington Tunnel at halloween on board one of London's community narrowboats specially decorated for the occasion with a friendly witch amongst the crew. Be prepared for some surprise goings-on in the darkness of the 185 year old tunnel! Kids receive sweets or fruit on board and a free glowstick.

Places are limited on each trip. Babies are counted even if they are carried in arms. The Canal Museum Trust sells boat trip tickets as agent for the Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association. You are advised to be at the museum at least 15 minutes before your trip - the boat cannot wait for latecomers.

A unique museum visit

Halloween event logo - a most amazing Halloween experienceExpect the unexpected as you look around the London Canal Museum. There will be special activities for children in the museum so make sure you allow time for these either before or after your boat trip. (Before if you are catching one of the last boats of the evening). Look out for horrible sights and listen for screams! There will be a story teller in the museum telling ghost stories at intervals. Explore the corridor of fear Listen to horrible noises, and look out for horrible pictures in unexpected places! (Activities subject to confirmation nearer the time)

Other boat trips

London Canal Museum offers guided tunnel boat trips on certain Sundays in the summer. These are suitable for adults and older children. Please check this website for further information. There are regular trips between Camden and Little Venice operated by commercial companies. Groups can charter a boat for a tunnel trip of their own. Please see our Community Narrowboat page and our Boat Trips on London Canals page.

Volunteering

The event takes a lot of staffing and is volunteer run. Both the museum and the CCNA would be interested to hear from new volunteers both for this event and for other work. The addresses are volunteering@canalmuseum.org.uk and volunteers@candencanals.org. The CCNA are particularly interested in hearing from people who would like to be friendly witches for the two evenings.
