Collegiate Life
Netherhall seeks to engender a community of mutual trust and fellowship. An essential part of the life at Netherhall is the family atmosphere, which is built out of the small contributions made by each of the students living here.
The house offers shared meals, daily get-togethers and common rules. Our experience of more than 70 years shows that in this setting long lasting friendship are formed among residents.
Study
Netherhall has a large library, reading room and dedicated study rooms.
Because of a strong emphasis is placed on study and work to set the tone of the house, residents are expected to adjust their timetable to that of the house to foster a quiet atmosphere.
Culture
The guest speaker series invites authors, academics, and businessmen to broaden the horizons of the students’ knowledge, from the discovery of Richard the Third’s bones to the latest in quantum computing.
Music recitals and concerts, formal dinners and student Ted talks make up the termly cycle.
Social Life
From day trips to places like Oxford, Winchester and the Chilterns to longer ones in the Lake District, Scotland and throughout Europe.
Football and volleyball games, tennis tournaments and cycling trips are among the regular activities. Clubs are run in the evenings and weekends, ranging from astronomy to bouldering through philosophy.
Spiritual growth
The spiritual activities at Netherhall are entrusted to Opus Dei, a prelature of the Catholic Church, whose aim is to encourage people to seek God through their daily work whilst living a fully Christian life.
A resident chaplain is available to all students and visitors. There is daily Mass, weekly meditations and monthly recollections, along with yearly retreats at Wickenden Manor.
