Information about the menopause service

This is a service for women experiencing the perimenopause and the menopause. You may have symptoms that are affecting your life, whether it is work, relationships, family or how you see yourself.

Our menopause doctors are Dr Theodora Kalentzi, a very experienced British Menopause Society Accredited Menopause Specialist and GP; Dr Ashlesha Dhairyawan, an experienced British Menopause Society Accredited Menopause Specialist and GP, and Dr Niki Davies a very experienced GP with a special interest in the menopause. All are members of the British Menopause Society. Do have a look at our about us page for more information about our doctors.

The British Menopause Society is the specialist authority for menopause and post reproductive health in the UK. A Menopause Specialist is a healthcare professional who has additional knowledge and skills, assessing and treating women with complex needs such as multiple treatment failures, POI (Primary Ovarian Insufficiency), complex medical problems, high risk cancer genes or hormone dependant cancer.

With our clinic you will receive personalised care. You will be given time to discuss your symptoms and concerns in detail. You will have a full assessment, which may include blood tests. We will go through with you the risks of osteoporosis, cardiovascular events and breast cancer and what can be done to reduce these risks.

We will discuss management options. This will include, what you can do for yourself and the range of treatments available including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), body identical hormone therapies and alternative treatments. We will go through their benefits and any associated risks.

We will explore with you what suits you best based on your background history, symptoms, beliefs and lifestyle. Not one treatment works the same for every woman nor one size fits all. Sometimes you may need to try 2 or 3 treatments to find the one best suited to you.

Our objective is to help you take control of your symptoms in the most suitable and safe way. The overall aim is to find the option that feels right and works for you.

What to expect during the first consultation

Why the interest in menopause care

I was a medical student when I first witnessed someone with debilitating hot flushes and sweats. It was my mother. She was in her early 50s suffering in silence, overloaded with juggling the competing demands of running a business and looking after her family.

It was very sad that she felt unable to talk about it because the norm was just to put up with it.

Fast forward 30 years and the menopause remains a challenge, still misunderstood by many. More than ever, it carries the dreaded perception that ‘we are getting old’ in a society that celebrates youth and not maturity. Read the full story

Medical Prime - Private Menopause Clinic London

Menopause is the end of having the ‘time of the month’. Could it be the start of having ‘the time of your life’?

You are worried, you are unsure, you are confused. Is it the menopause? You may still have periods, they may be irregular or they may have stopped. You know something has changed which seems to be affecting your work, your family or your relationships.

You may notice changes in your body, emotions, or mental state. Your hair is thinning on your head and is growing on your face, your memory becomes foggy, your sex drive is a thing of the past, you become sweaty out of the blue, your mood changes like the British weather.

Maybe you have been taking HRT and you are worried about breast cancer and what happens to your symptoms if you stop the treatment.

Whether you are approaching or have gone through the menopause you may be thinking ‘this is it’, ‘I am getting old’, ‘my best years are gone’, ‘I don’t feel feminine anymore’.

But it needn’t be like that.

You may spend more than a third of your life in the menopause and you deserve a good life. Nowadays, there are various treatments and ways to manage your symptoms, there is more evidence about the treatments to help you decide what is more safe and appropriate for you.

Menopause shouldn’t put a pause in the way you live your life.

When you have been busy juggling a career, looking after a family/partner, focusing on the daily stresses and the menopause hits you, what better time to start a new chapter, what better time to look after you.
