Lighting Styles – the Lighting Specialists
Lighting trends for the year ahead
Trends have changed over the last couple of years. Many people have been forced to work from home, couple this with little social time outside the house, there is a real need for both functional and pleasing lighting. When working you need something that is going to help you not only see adequately but make your workspace (whether a living room corner, dining table or office) look the part and be multifunctional. When evening comes you will most likely want to dim the lighting to relax and forget about the workday. Layering lighting with a variety of fixtures such as wall washing lights, floor and lamps as well as a main feature light is as popular as ever as they help zone a space making it either more inviting or provide decent light for reading.
Many manufacturers have opted for the warm finishes of gold and copper for their fixtures with unusual, soft and curvy lines helping to make the home an interesting and desired place to be. They seem to have realised we are not only craving functional lighting but eye-catching products to be admired and for years to come. We are still seeing some monochrome fittings but with the ever present and evolving LED technology, warm white chips are considered better for living spaces whilst the cooler are better for commercial spaces. LED colour changing lamps, controlled via mobile Apps, are also evolving and have become much more reliable and attainable – they are no longer considered a passing frivolous fad.
Outdoor lighting has been in high demand to create another room in the garden. Festoon lights are still popular but we have seen a rise in favour of the new portable, rechargeable lighting, which can be taken from patio to lounge to bedroom all without the need for a fixed plug. There are so many interesting and varied designs and of course our novel lighting of birds and monkeys are still desired.
The hospitality industry have been evolving their spaces, modernising and revamping to entice customers and create a comfortable area to relax in. Sustainability plays a key part which is achieved by adding LED fixtures which are low heat and energy efficient.
Whatever lies ahead if a home is effectively illuminated it will not only be functional but be a place where we are happy to spend time.
